Michael Roberts
Sound Factory Live Photographer
Having spent just over 20 years in the military, Michael first picked up a camera when he was forcedto leave his career unexpectedly in November 2017. First starting to photograph local landscapes predominantly in black and white, Michael then decided to combine his passion for music with his new learnt photography skills. In the summer of 2021, Michael first cut his teeth in live music venues within Plymouth concentrating on the cities’ Rock/Indie scene. Spending several years studying photography at university enabled Michael to steadily build a portfolio of local bands and performers.
In the summer of 2022, he was invited to work at Boomtown festival as a band photographer and has continued to notch up several more festivals since including The Great Estate and Tunes in the Park. This has enabled him to photograph both locally based musicians and some more well- established bands such as Madness, Elbow and Primal Scream amongst others.
When away from the camera, Michael can still be found in and around the music scene working alongside engineers, assisting on stage with both sound and lighting setups. Having now being made a part of the amazing team at Sound Factory, Michael is now looking forward to embracing new projects and challenges that come his way.
